Bob and Eileen Harness

2003 History Hero

Mr. and Mrs. Harness were both active members of the Marshall County Historical Society. As a husband and wife team, they collected antique farm equipment, service station memorabilia, etc. Bob was a World War II veteran and was frequently ready to be a speaker for groups on Veterans’ Day, Memorial Day, and other patriotic holidays. Never forgetting his own patriotism, he told light hearted stories to scout troops and 4-H clubs. Bob and Eileen were one of the biggest contributors to the Marshall County History Museum, helped with fundraisers, participated in the Elizabethtown Festival, Marshall County Fair, Show and Sell Days, building Christmas floats among many other things. They worked to preserve the history and culture of the county and making residents feel proud of their county. They restored an old store moved from its location at Camp Washington, named for the encampment of George Washington and his troops, close to the Harness home.
